Home to the first U.S. gold rush in 1828, people flocked to the area some 28 years before California's gold migration. The Dahlonega Gold Museum Historic Site offers a glimpse into the city's famous "boom town" past and the United States Mint branch that was operated there from 1838-1861.
Dahlonega has been consistently named as a best place to retire by several popular publications due to its low cost of living, vibrant activities, festivals, and continuing education for seniors. Additionally, the area's unique offerings, recreational opportunities and excellent public school system have made it a popular place for families of all ages to call home.
